Against any rational progress

Given the long and successful history of automobile construction, a move away from today’s modern hi-tech vehicles to a mechanically driven carriage – as found in the early days of automobile design – would appear from a technical point of view to be a backwards step. And, at first sight, it may seem to be flying in the face of common sense.
