A joy to behold

For many owners, the carriage was more than just a means of transport. That’s why great importance was placed on the equipage: the overall impression of carriage, matching horses, staff, clothing etc. The equipage of the carriage should always represent the owner’s social status.
Besides the horses, the various contemporary decorations had a particular significance, for the owner of a beautifully decorated carriage wished not only to delight the people passing by, but primarily himself.
